Maya Post Classic Period in Belize
The authors of this paper drew on the information
provided in a book, “The Ancient Maya: The Rise and Fall of a Rainforest Civilization” by Arthur Demarest. In this book, Demarest concludes
that the Postclassic period of Maya civilization was strong in Belize. The authors draw an updated research to improve on what is known about
the Postclassic Maya in Belize. The position is that there have not been a sufficiently large number of large-scale studies of Postclassic
Maya sites in Belize for Classic centres, but several sites have resulted in useful data that can be used to develop a cleaner understanding
of the Postclassic Maya. Such sites have included Pusilha, Wild Cane Caye, Mayflower sites, Xunantunich, Baking Pot, Buena Vista, Caracol,
Colha Lamanai, Santa Rita, Aventura, and Caye Coco.
